Piano Instruction

There are two options for lessons: Individual and Partner lessons with a lab. See more info below. All classes are held weekly with two group lessons in the Fall semester and three in the spring with a recital. The group lessons replace your normal weekly lesson. There are 14 lessons in the fall semester and 18 in the spring.

Learn

Theory, technique, scales, sightreading skills, and elements of Orff Schulwerk as a foundation.

Play

Improvisation skills gained to play along with others or add personal flair to a piece of music. Interaction with other students on a variety of instruments.

Create

Learn and understand composition concepts to write your own music.

Set Goals

Individual goal setting for the year in the areas wanting to be improved.

Individual Lessons

Individual lessons are 30 minutes with the instructor. Time is spent on the bench and off the bench. Teaching time includes instruction books, games, and activities to reinforce learning.

Partner Lessons with Lab

Two students come at the same time for 60 minutes–one on the bench, one at the music lab (in the same room). They switch at the half hour. Music lab activities include physical games covering musical concepts, iPad apps that match student goals, partner pieces, and more.
